|
Three states of matter | Solid Liquid Gas |
Particles | All matter is made up of very small particles that are too small to see. |
Solids | Particles are tightly packed; small spaces |
Liquids | Particles are in contact; spaces large enough so particles can slide by each other |
Gases | Particles are frequently moving; large spaces |
Heat | The energy transferred from one substance to another |
Temperature | The average kinetic energy of the particles in the substance |
Cold Object | Solid; Low kinetic energy and their particles just vibrate |
Warmer Object | Liquid and Gas ~ High kinetic energy and their particles move frequently |
Melting | Solid to Liquid |
Evaporation | Liquid to Gas |
Sublimation | Solid to Gas |
Solidification | Liquid to Solid |
Condensation | Gas to Liquid |
Deposition | Gas to Solid |
Melting Point | The temperature at which solid turns to liquid |
Boiling Point | The temperature at which liquid turns to gas |
