What were Nazi views on women in education and employment? - They believed that a woman's place was at home, raising a family - The Nazis had several policies to reduce numbers of women in the workforce
How did they reduce the no. of women going into work and give some examples. through propaganda ↓ they tried to persuade women to behave differently • Nazi posters → showed women as wives and mothers • Nazi speeches → encouraged women to leave work and become housewives • the 3Ks was taught → Kinder
What were some new policies introduced in order to stop women entering work? → 1933; women were banned from professional jobs, e.g. teacher, doctors, civil servants → 1936; dismissed from any job related to the law → school girls were trained for motherhood and housework; not work → 1937; grammar schools (prepared girls for uni) were banned → discrimination against women applicants for jobs was encouraged
Why did the Germans encourage marriage and childbirth and how? The Germans wanted to reverse the fall in birth rate (fewer children = fewer workers+soldiers later on) ↓ they made several changes to the laws and introduced new policies to encourage marriage + childbirth
What was the German Women's Enterprise and how did it help the Nazis? The New Women's leader, Gertrude Scholtz-Klink, insisted that all women's organisations must merge with the new Nazi organisation, the GWE ↓ this gave Nazis control of all the women's groups in the country and allowed them to spread their ideas about women
the Law for the Encouragement of Marriage this gave newly weds a loan so women could leave work + have children
the Mother's Cross an award given to women for the no. of children they had; bronze - 4 silver - 6 gold - 8
Lebensborn programmes set up to encourage women to breed with SS men and create 'genetically pure' children
How did Hitler control the physical appearances of women? Through propaganda women were encouraged to wear modest clothes, with their hair tied back, in plaits, or in a bun They were discouraged from dyeing their hair or wearing make-up
Nazi policies towards women convinced some Germans and has some impact- -but only were effective to a limited or temporary degree
