Question Answer
Ebeneezer Scrooge The miserly owner of the "Scrooge & Marley" counting-house (an accoutant's office). The three ghosts come to visit him to change his selfish and apathetic approach to life
Bob Cratchit Scrooge's clerk, who is kind but very poor. He has a large family and, despite harsh treatment from Scrooge, he remains a humble and dedicated employee
Tiny Tim Bob Cratchit's youngest son, crippled from birth. He is used by Dickens to elucidate the suffering of the poor and to get sympathy from the middle and upper class readership (people who read the book)
Jacob Marley Scrooge's equally greedy partner, who died seven years ago when the narrative began. Later, he appears as a ghost to Scrooge, who is condemned to wander the world bound with heavy chains. Marley tries to stop Scrooge from suffering the same fate as him
The Ghost of Christmas Past The first spirit to visit Scrooge. A curious, chidlike figure with a glowing head, who takes Scrooge on a tour of the Christmases of his past. He has a cap to dim the light on his head
The Ghost of Christmas Present The second spirit to visit Scrooge. A giant clothed by a green robe, whose life span is restricted to Christmas Day. His tour is about how everyone Scrooge knows (or knew) celebrates Christmas
The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come The third (and final) spirit to visit Scrooge, a silent phantom clad in a hooded black robe. He presents Scrooge with a sinister view of his lonely death
Fred Scrooge's nephew, a friendly, cheerful man who loves Christmas. Every year, he invites Scrooge to his Christmas party, only to be refused by his grumpy uncle
Belle A beautiful woman who Scrooge fell deeply in love with. She broke off their engagement after Scrooge became obssessed with money and wealth. She later married another man
Peter Cratchit Bob's oldest son, who inherits his father's stiff-collared shirt for Christmas
Martha Cratchit Bob's oldest daughter, who works in a milliner's shop (A milliner is someone who designs, produces and sells hats)
Fan Scrooge's sister and Fred's mother. In one moment of his past, she picks him up from school and walks him home
The portly gentlemen In the beginning, they visit Scrooge to seek charitable contributions. Unfortunately and unsuprisingly, Scrooge refuses to make any donation to the poor. In the end, when Scrooge is a changed man, he promises one of them for a huge donation to the poor
Mrs Cratchit Bob's wife, a kind and loving woman
