Resource summary

Flowchart nodes

  • A Signalling molecule binds to receptor on the plasma membrane of target cell
  • This activates the G protein.
  • The G Protein activates Adenyl cyclase enzymes
  • Activated Adenyl Cyclase enzymes catalyse formation of cAMP from ATP
  • cAMP activates PKA (protein kinase A)
  • PKA catalyses the phosphorylation of many other enzymes, hydrolysing ATP in the process
  • Glycogen becomes converted into glucose
  • May phosphorylate other proteins
  • This then enters the nucleus and acts as a transcription factor to regulate transcription
