Welcome to our Modern History course 1980 to 2001 concentrating mainly on the post Cold War period. This course is part of a 3 part series addressing International Relations since World War 1. We look at the end of the Cold War and new developments post-Cold War focusing in the collapse of communism, the rise of terror movements such as Al-Qaeda and the consequences world wide.
We begin our Course with a look at developments in the Cold War in the 1980's. The entrance of Gorbachov on the stage ushered in mass changes in Soviet Union and eventually led to the collapse of communism and the end of the cold war.
Throughout the period of communism and the Iron Curtain there were protests and insurrections. This mind map charts the major protests in countries in Eastern Europe under communism and how the Soviet Union reacted.
