Validation of the Subjective Scale of Mental
workload (ESCAM) in Health professionals from
Chile.
The aim of this study is to confirm the psychometric
characteristics of the Subjective Mental Workload Scale
(SCAM) in health workers of Chilean Hospitals. The
instruments used were: (1) SCAM; (2) questionnaire
SUSESO-ISTAS 21. The sample was composed of 379 workers
from three hospitals. The findings showed that SCAM is
structured in five dimensions: Cognitive demands and task
complexity, Task characteristics, Temporal organization,
Work rate, and Health consequences. Likewise, significant
correlations between overall score of SCAM and its
dimensions with the SUSESO-ISTAS 21 factors were found.
Also, scale validity was verified through mental workload
profiles with different professional groups.
Objective:The aim of this study is to confirm
the psychometric characteristics of the
Subjective Mental Workload Scale (SCAM) in
health workers of Chilean Hospitals.
research question: ¿The scale is valid
through the analysis of mental load profiles
with different professional groups?
justification:this inestigacion was made
to know the mental demands of work,
both by excess as default because they
have important consequences in the
well-being and health of people, as well
as about the achievement of the
objectives of the organization, of there
the relevance of being evaluated in
contexts of work.
The research carried out corresponds to a
realistic approach since the starting point of
learning must be found in situations that ask
for "being organized" by means of models
developed by the learners and based on their
own needs that they try and improve from
their experimentation, in this case The
researchers validate the subjective scale of
mental workload in a sample of Chilean
workers from instruments that allowed them
to collect the information they needed to test
their hypothesis.
The research article that we consulted complies with the characteristics of
quantitative research since in it the problem statement is presented, which
is the validation of an instrument that is applied to some workers to know
their mental load and the consequences that this brings in their health and
way of working. Right there is the definition and selection of the sample
that is a group of health workers from a hospital in Chile. Viability, for the
researchers it was possible to have access to the place or context where the
study was conducted and they had the instrument available to collect the
data that allowed them to know their analysis and thus prepare the report
of the results . We can also find the social relevance that allows the
community to know the different factors that influence the well-being and
health of people and the achievement of the objectives of their work.
