to form sentences using second conditional, we use if + subject + simple past (to talk about the situation), subject + would / wouldn't + infinitive without to (for the consequence)

WHAT IS
Annotations:
Second conditional is the second conditional mode of if clauses in the English grammar. It is used to express a dialogue with a hypothetical sense as in the phrase “If Mathias had the courage, he would go on the roller coaster”.
RULES
Annotations:
For the second conditional, the conditional verb is used in the simple past tense and the one in the main sentence is accompanied by the modal verbs would, could, might or should.
after the "if" we always put the verb in the past tense. When it is "would" it continues in the present tense.
Always use after "If", the form "didn't" for negative sentences.
