• Prosody or suprasegmentals. It´s the melody of the speech

1. The rise and fall of the pitch in our voices.
2. Speakers use this pitch variation to convey linguistic and pragmatic meaning
   1. The study of this things and the rhythm of speech, and how to interplay of accented, stress and unstress syllables functions as a framework onto which the intonation patterns are attached.

   1. Attitudinal

      Annotations:

      • Express attitudes and emotions.  We do this by the TONE.
   2. Grammatical

      Annotations:

      • Identify grammatical structures in speech. we do this by the TONALITY.
   3. Focusig (accentual or informational)

      Annotations:

      • Shows what information is an utterance is new and what is already know.
   4. Discourse (Cohesive)

      Annotations:

      • Signals how sequences of clauses and sentences go together. 
   5. Psychological

      Annotations:

      • Organize speech into units that are easy to percieve, memorize and perform.
   6. Indexical

      Annotations:

      • Marker of a personal or social identity.
