   • -fit closely together -Contain an APICAL SURFACE- have one unattached surface or edge may contain cilia -Lower surface of an epithelial cell rests on a BASEMENT MEMBRANE (basal membrane) -Have no blood supply (avascular)...depend on diffusion to obtain O2, etc -Easily regenerate themselves

   • Connects body parts (connects, supports and binds) Cell secrete EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX -Fibers and “adhesion proteins” -able to form a soft padding around the other tissues -able to bear weight -able to withstand stretching
