2. Final consonant after a short, stressed vowel: ADMIT - ADMITTED
3. As final consonant after a vowel is doubled: TRAVEL - TRAVELLED
4. FInal y after a consonant becomes i: HURRY - HURRIED
PAST CONTINUOS

  1. final e is dropped (but: ee is not changed): COME - COMING
  2. after a short, stressed vowel, the final consonant is doubled: SIT - SITTING
