DUFF AND PURPOSE OF TRANSLATION
  1. Duff (1989) identifies three essential purposes of translation as an activity in language learning: accuracy, clarity and flexibility. He argues that translation “trains the learner to search (flexibility) for the most appropriate words (accuracy) to convey what is meant (clarity).
    1. ACCURACY
      1. Accuracy: the condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact; freedom from error or defect; precision or exactness; correctness.
        1. this help the learner to expand the vocabulary that possess and also the learner can have a more sophisticated vocabulary to express himself.
      2. CLARITY
        1. clearness or lucidity as to perception or understanding; freedom from indistinctness or ambiguity
          1. the translator need to convert the idea that the author is plastering in the text, an ambiguous translation can be interpreted in many forms.
        2. FLEXIBILITY
          1. Flexibility: susceptible of modification or adaptation; adaptable
            1. the learner can adapt to different situations in the real life where he needs to have a vast vocabulary to express himself in an appropriate form.
