      1. Justification

        Annotations:

        • The colonists believed that all men are created equal and are entitled to take arms against their government if they see fit. They were also sick of the crimes and unjust actions taken by the British Crown.
      2. The Bill of Rights

        Annotations:

        • The Bill of Rights was the first group of amendments added to the constitution. 
        1. Why Was it added?

          Annotations:

          • The Bill of Rights was added to secure citizens' rights. These include the right to bare arms, freedom of speak, religion, and many other important rights.
        2. The Purpose of the Government

          Annotations:

          • The writers believed the purpose of the government was to serve the people. They believed it should be by the people for the people.
          1. "All Men are created Equal"

            Annotations:

            • The writers of the constitution did not give women, black men, or black women the same freedoms as white men, especially ones who owned land, despite saying "All Men are created equally".
