1. Level 2: Sources Before 2010. In the bubbles below, record the main idea of each of the five articles we read for the discussion posts. Use dates in APA style.
   1. The main idea of the Mead (2006) article is how girls are progressively doing better in the education system and getting close to matching their male counter parts academically
   2. The main idea of Greene (1978) is how the schools are being sexist, instead of teaching the students equally.

   1. The main idea of the Sparks (2014) article how extra curricular activities are helping both boys and girls in different ways.
      1. Having the students participate in different extra curricular activities helps them excel in different aspects of school.
   2. The main idea in the Mead (2013) article talks about how girls and boys are both being academically separated from their counter parts
   3. The main idea in the Heltin (2014) article it talks about how boys are getting more attention in the math and science portions of secondary education over their female counter parts.

   1. In the 2013 article, it states that men do worse on their writing portion of the SAT and in the 2004 article it forsees boys will drop once the writing part is added to the SAT.

   2. The 2004 article states that women tend to score higher on verbal portions of tests and the 2014 article backs up this information.

   3. In the 2004 article it states that a higher percentage of women are attending college and in the 2013 article is backs up this statement but offers a possible reason why.

4. Level 3: What differences in the updated information did you find? Compare articles dated after 2010 to those dated before 2010. Record at least three.
   1. In the article "Boys are struggling academically" it says that boys are having a harder time in the education system when in the Segal (2013) article it statistically proved that boys were scoring higher in two of the three sections in the SAT testing. The were only scoring lower than the girls in the writing portion of the SAT but had an overall better score.
   2. In the (2013) article it states that girls do about as well as boys do in math classes, and that it is people telling girls that are not as good at math that gives them anxiety. In the (2004) article, it states "girls shine" while boys are falling behind.

   3. The difference in “Boys Are Struggling Academically” (BASA) and “Should We Care About Gender Composition As New Yorks Elite Public Schools” is in BASA article it says that boys are struggling in the elite educational environment and in “Should We Care…” it says that girls are the ones struggling in the education system.
   4. Level 4: Look at sources dated after 2010 that your group found for this week's discussion posts. On this level, show at least two likenesses (to the right) and two differences(to the left) you found as you studied these and ANY other works we have studied in the course. Cite your findings.
      1. Both of these article stressed how men are getting more emphasis in the STEM classes but Harry's article offers idea's in how working together can lead to developments in the fired.

      2. The 2013 article states that gender gaps in math are becoming broader but in the 2014 article is shows women are aging in STEm fields.

      3. One difference is that Mead says women are getting close to matching their male counterparts (that are) but Timby's article shows even when females are equal they are treated as inferior.

      4. In Mead's (1992) article she says how females are being neglected in education, In Trimby's article she discusses how 21 years later sexism is still an issue.

      5. Level 5: What conclusion(s) have you drawn about girls and boys' education as a result of synthesizing all you have read for this assignment?
         1. A conclusion we found was that the educational system from 1992 to 2014 has not changed as much as we as a society have hope based on the findings in the article that boys and girls are still failing academically.

         2. Within the educational systems teachers need to pay equal attention to both boys and girls. WIth an overwhelming feeling that both girls and boys are getting behind academically because of sexism in the classroom and the thought of one sex being better at a subject than that of their counter parts, teachers need to put in an effort to not leave a student in the dark academically,
         3. It is shocking how little is really known on the subject of boys verses girls in education. Much of what drives this sexism in the classroom is based on stereotypes not real information. These stereotypes are becoming real because students are pushed into accepting the "facts".
         4. The tone several of these articles have that is negative toward one sex triumphing of another is so interesting and alarming to me. I can't imagine treating a student differently because of gender. I believe teaching the student not the statistics is what is important. Every child learns differently and gender should not be a factor in what opportunities they are given.
