  1. Cytomegalovirus
    1. stats: 4 out of every 10 Americans get CMV by the time they reach puberty
      1. symptoms: Sometimes swollen glands, fatigue, fever, irritation of the digestive tract, nausea, diarrhea, and jaundice.
        1. Treatment: no cure
          1. Complications: can also be passed from a pregnant woman to her unborn baby
            1. How transmitted: in body fluids, such as urine, saliva, blood, tears, semen, and breast milk

                1. stats: Around 300,000 to 700,000 people infected in the U.S.
                  1. symptoms:extreme fatigue, tenderness and pain in the lower abdomen, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.
                    1. Complications: 1 out of 5 people with chronic HBV die from the infection.
                      1. Treatment:No cure – in most cases of Hep-A, hepatitis goes away by itself.
                        1. How transmitted: consuming contaminated food or sharing dirty hypodermic needles.
                        2. Herpes
                          1. How transmitted:aginal sex and anal sex.
                            1. stats:About 8 of every 10 adults has oral herpes and 1 of every 4 adults has genital herpes
                              1. symptoms:cluster of blistery sores
                                1. Complications:contact with herpes sores during delivery can lead to a severe, life-threatening infection for the baby.

                                    1. How transmitted:blood, semen, pre-seminal fluid, rectal fluids, vaginal fluids, and breast milk.
                                      1. symptoms: wollen glands in the throat, armpit, or groin
                                        1. stats: more than 980,000 cases of AIDS have been reported to the government. Around 48,000 people infected in the U.S. annually

                                                        1. how transmitted: vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has chlamydia.
                                                          1. stats: Around 3 million people infected in the U.S. annually
                                                            1. symptoms: Sometimes abdominal pain, abnormal discharge, fever, bleeding between periods
                                                              1. Complications: untreated, it can become a serious threat – leading to pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility and sterility,
                                                                1. treatment: Antibiotics
                                                                2. Gonorrhea

                                                                    1. stats: Around 600,000-700,000 people infected in the U.S. annually
                                                                      1. symptoms: abdominal pain, bleeding between periods, fever, painful intercourse, painful urination
                                                                        1. Complications: untreated, it can be a serious health risk causing infertility, arthritis, pelvic inflammatory disease
