Unit 1.5 V1 Network Topologies
  1. Network Types
    1. Mesh Network
      1. Some or all workstations are connected to each other
        1. Most are usually connected to the node they exchange the most data with
        2. Star Network
          1. Each device is connected by an individual cable directly to the server
            1. These tend to be more reliable and so are used in schools and offices
          2. Encryption
            1. A method of scrambling data with a key code which makes no sense
              1. In order to read it you must have the key
                1. We use it with wifi so if data is intercepted it has no meaning
                2. Wifi
                  1. Wireless Frequency
                    1. Radio Waves transmit data packets without wires
                      1. It has a cheap set up
                        1. It can lose signal through obstructions
                          1. Can connect multiple devices easily but more slowly
                            1. Can be hacked more easily
                              1. The user isn't tied to a specific location
                              2. Ethernet
                                1. Stable Connection
                                  1. Less likely to be hacked
                                    1. Faster traffic speed
                                      1. Generally gives out a good quality signal
