Attitudes that change our
character (Beatitudes 1-4)
Blessed are the poor in
spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
"Poor in spirit" means to be humble
You are able
to realize
that all gifts
and blessings
come from
God.
You are open
to the Word
of God which
allows you to
do the will of
God.
Blessed are they who
mourn, for they will be
comforted.
Mourning is called a blessing
because it creates in us a
desire to improve ourselves
and to do what is right.
We mourn and
regret over sin.
We mourn for the
suffering of others.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the
earth.
A person who is
gentle and kind
A person who
exhibits
self-control
Blessed are they who
hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they
will be satisfied.
A person who continuously desires for justice
and moral perfection will be led to a fulfillment
of that desire - a transition and conversion to
holiness.
Attitudes that guide us in getting
along with others (Beatitudes 5-8)
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown
mercy.
Forgiveness
towards one's
neighbor
As we are
merciful to
others, God will
also be
merciful with
us.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Free of all
selfish
intentions and
self-seeking
desires - an act
of pure love
Blessed are they who are
persecuted for the sake of
righteousness, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven.
Those who
suffer for
God's sake
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of
God.
Must first have
peace within
before bringing
peace to others
