                              1. Bacon's personal vendetta with the governor was because he wasn't given any power in the gov.
                            2. Men outside of the government were not given any political power, therefore setting the stage for the fight against the natives
                            3. The Puritans and New England
                              1. Left Europe because of religious discrimination
                                1. Went to the New World (soon to be New England) with few people and had a difficult time surviving
                                  1. Like the Jamestown colonists, the Puritans followed a strict set of survival guidelines
                                    1. these came through religious guidelines.
                                  2. Had relatively good relations with the natives up and until they indirectly killed most of them through disease
                                    1. Despite the religious guidelines, there were still people that spoke out against the strict Puritanism in N.E.
                                      1. Anne Hutchinson was one of the few that spoke out against Puritanism
                                    2. King Philip's Rebellion
                                      1. English wanted more land
                                        1. Puritans pushed culture onto Natives
                                          1. Made them follow English rules w/out their consent
                                            1. Natives killed about 1,000 englishmen due to this
                                              1. Natives remained superior for 3 years until the colonists gained ground with help from other natives
                                        2. Borderlands and Enslavement
                                          1. Tried to colonize the Caribbean
                                            1. Succeeded and found a good crop but many people did not want to do the work for it
                                              1. This is when African slave labor came into the picture
                                                1. Slave labor became a huge part of the economy
                                                  1. Despite their importance, slaves were given essentially no rights
                                          2. The Glorious Reformation
                                            1. England returned to the colonial scene
                                              1. Started enforcing the navigation acts again
                                                1. Took more control over the colonies and therefore made the colonists very unhappy w/ the English gov.
