    1. Otherwise known as 'malicious software'
      1. Software can be malicious if damaging to a computer or network
      2. Viruses
        1. Malware designed to cause harm to a computer or network
          1. Attaches itself to programs or files on a computer or server
            1. Can affect all components of an operating system
              1. Around 82,000 viruses are made a day
              2. Worms
                1. Replicates itself in order to spread to other computers
                  1. Often using a computer network
                    1. In order to achieve this, the worm exploits vulnerabilities across the computer network
                  2. Unlike a virus, it does not need to attach to a program
                  3. Trojan Horses
                    1. Malicious computer program
                      1. Designed to access the computer by misleading users of its intent
                      2. Social Engineering
                        1. Relies on human interaction
                          1. Commonly involves tricking users into breaking normal security procedures
                            1. Method does not revolve around technical cracking techniques such as worms and viruses
                            2. Computer Phishing
                              1. Form of social engineering
                                1. Designed to acquire sensitive information such as passwords, card details etc.
                                  1. Most common phishing attacks are sent through email
                                  2. Brute Force Attack
