Climate Change
  1. How has it affected the world?
    1. Higher Temperatures
      1. The world has been warming since the 1950s. Now there are more hot days than cold days due to climate change
      2. Heavier Storms & Floods
        1. The earth's atmosphere can hold more and more moisture as it warms. So, this causes more storms and floods around the world
        2. Heat Waves
          1. They will become hotter, longer and more frequent all over the world
        3. What are the impacts in the future?
          1. Massive Migrations
            1. Climate refugees are real and will become a bigger problem in the future. It is estimated there will be 1 billion by 2050
            2. More Extreme Hurricanes
              1. Hurricanes will increase in violence due to climate change causing more deaths , refugees and damage
              2. Extinctions
                1. Temperature that surpasses the physiological tolerance of the species will be one of the main causes of extinction in the future
              3. How can we help defeat it?
                1. Don't waste food
                  1. Methane comes from food rotting in landfills & it it is a lot stronger than CO2
                  2. Ride a bike/ carpool
                    1. Riding a bike uses a small amount of fossil fuels and it's a pollution-free way of trasnportation
                    2. Unplug electronics when not using them
                      1. Most of the energy coming from our houses use fossil fuels, so, when you unplug them you are reducing your carbon emissions
                    3. What is causing it?
                      1. Deforestation
                        1. Forests absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air but when we cut down trees the process is reversed
                        2. Increase In Population
                          1. More people means the need for more resources, which means speeding up the increase in greenhouse gas emissions
                          2. Greenhouse gases are increasing
                            1. When there are more greenhouse gases in the air, the air holds more heat, which causes climate change
