Miracles AQA
  1. Realist and Anti-realist views
    1. Antony Flew - Christianity is dependent on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. An important miracle for them is the resurrection of Christ. He believed that a factual approach to Christianity is needed to show the idea of reincarnation - in other words, God is Jesus --- this is a realist view
      1. Realism
        1. 1. Someone who is a realist in the scientific sense generally accepts the following: the best scientific theories we have now give us true descriptions of the world as well as of things that we know do exist but cannot observe. As well as this, a realist believes that the world is mind-independent, meaning that the existence of the world is not dependent on what humans think of it.
          1. 2. Just as scientists can be realists about the world, religious people can be realists about miracles: Miracles are a real part of what happens in the world and they brought by God or by people empowered by God (e.g. Moses). God exists as a transcendent but miracles are a proof of his existence. Despite these things, we still do not fully understand miracles.
          2. Anti Realism
          3. Realist examples of miracles
            1. Miracle as an extraordinary coincidence of a beneficial nature. An incident as such took place with Juliane Koepcke (German-Peruvian high school student). After surviving an extremely damaging plane crash which killed everyone on board she was able to reach help after a nine day journey through the Peruvian rainforest. This was despite her several injuries and and maggot-infested wounds
