Theories of evolution
Lamarck's theory
Believed that creatures acquired characteristics during their lifetime.
The environment caused change which helps them survive in a habitat.
Darwin's theory
Evolution is a continual change of organisms over a long time.
The effect of evolution is that species will become better adapted to their environment.
If these species don't adapt they may become extinct.
Conclusion: Species evolve over a long period of time by a mechanisms called "Natural selection"
The main evidence is from fossil records.
Natural selection
The better adapted members are more likely to survive.
There is competition within each species for food, living space, water and mates.
Survivors will pass on characteristics and genes.
