Bonding Types
Covalent Bonding
Shared pair of electrons between atoms.
Dative Bond: Bond where only 1 of the bonded atoms provides both electrons for the bonds.
Ionic Bonding
Electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions.
Common Ions
Nitrate: NO3(-)
Carbonate: CO3(2-)
Sulfate: SO4(2-)
Ammonium: NH4(+)
Metallic Bonding
Attraction of positive ions to delocalised electrons.
Giant Metallic Lattice Properties
Malleable: Can be hammered into shape.
Ductile: Can be stretched out.
High BP/MP: Attraction between electrons and positive ions is very strong, so a lot of energy is required to break the bonds.
Conduct Electricity: Delocalised electrons can move freely anywhere in the lattice
