Evaluation Question 6: What have you
learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
We used the Canon Powershot SX260
camera to film our horror film opening
sequence.
Our options were to use my camera
(the Canon Powershot), or one of the
school's handheld video cameras.
We chose to use my camera as we
thought it would be more reliable, and I
was experienced with using it so I knew
how it worked.
The camera was really
simple to use and produced
some great quality recordings.
To add the music and sound effects to our
film opening, we used the Apple software
Garageband.
I had some experience with using
Garageband, but had never used it to create a
soundtrack for a video clip.
I found Garageband simple to use
and it was easy to find the cinematic
sounds we needed.
Using this software enabled us to use
sound effects that we otherwise would
not have access to, and saved us from
having to spend time searching the
internet for the perfect music and
effects.
We used Final Cut Pro and iMovie to edit our film opening
sequence.
We were originally planning on
just using iMovie, as Ellie had
easy access to it on her laptop.
However, we were then introduced to Final Cut
Pro, a more complex programme that gave us
more editing options for our film opening.
Final Cut Pro was difficult to use at first,
but once we got used to it we found it
much more beneficial than iMovie would
have been.
We used iMovie to trim some
video clips that we needed to
use in our film opening, so it
was useful for this aspect of
editing our work,
When researching audiences for our film
opening, I wanted to create a survey in
order to find out what people looked for in a film opening.
I used the website Surveynuts to create my
survey. It was easy to use and not overly time
consuming, which was good. It also enabled me
to easily see my results.
I used Prezi to present some of my
research work. I had used Prezi
many times before, so it was easy
for me to use this website.
I used Blogger to post my research and planning
updates online. I was only vaguely familiar with
Blogger, so having used it to present all of my media
studies work has taught me a lot about how it works.
