14. Reading & comprehending are two different
things
You're much more likely to actually retain new information, when it's presented to you in a way that's already familiar. You've
probably noticed that trying to read a paper from another subject seems foreign and hard to do. But then as you get used to the
basic terms and nuances of the subject, it gets easier to understand.
TYPOGLYCEMIA :
the principle that
readers can
comprehend text
despite spelling
errors and
misplaced letters
in the words.
Making your work easier to read and comprehend:
The Flesh-Kincaid Formula:
Used to calculate the readability of text.
USE HELPFUL HEADLINES
Headlines give your audience clues as to the type
of information they can expect. This helps them
feel more at ease, and allows them to anticipate
what's coming next. Sort of like how we watch
the same shows all the time. It's because it
makes us feel comfortable. There's no surprises.
Headlines and Titles help us do that in writing.
THE INFO REMEMBERED IS DEPENDS ON
THE PERSON
Basically, what you remember is based on your
context. If you want people of all different
backgrounds and influences to take away
certain points from your presentation, you're
going to have to help them out. Give them some
help by including direction within your writing.
