    1. If a woman was working they were expected to stop once they got married
      1. Jobs were limited
      2. Housework was tiring due to the lack of labour saving devices
      3. Men were expected to work and earn money for their family
        1. Men mainly worked in heavy industry and manufacturing jobs
        2. Children were expected to respect their elders if not they were punished
          1. Divorce was difficult and expensive to obtain.
            1. Couples were stuck in loveless/abusive marriages. Or got over difficult periods
            2. FAMILYS WERE HIGHLY TRADITIONAL
