Resource summary
DNA Replication
DNA Replication commences at the Origin and is semi-conservative.
1. DNA Helicase unwinds the DNA strand at the replication fork.
2. DNA Primase (RNA primer) creates a primer on the leading and lagging strands.
3. DNA Polymerase III adds free nucleotides to the leading and lagging strand
4. On the lagging strand Okazaki fragments are produced. DNA Polymerase I exerts exonuclease activity on the Okazaki fragments and removes the primer
5. DNA Ligase seals the nick between the fragments on the lagging strand.
