The nerves involved in REFLEX ACTIONS form a REFLEX ARC. This is made
up of different types of nurone sperated by a tiny gap called a
SYNAPSE. The STIMULUS could be a pin prick. It is detected by a PAIN
receptor in the skin. This causes IMPULSES to pass along the sensory
nurones to the CNS. In the CNS, impulses are passed from SENSORY
neuron to MOTOR neuron via RELAY neurons. Motor neurons then
transmit impulses to an EFFECTOR which carries out a response. In this
case a MUSCLE contracts and the finger is pulled away from the pin.
