Resource summary
B2 - The Carbon Cycle
Carbon Dioxide is taken from the atmosphere by plants for photosynthesis
Plants and animals respire, releasing Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere
Animals eat plants and other animals so the carbon is passed through the bodies on the food web
Microorganisms feed on the dead animals and plants and release carbon dioxide into the air through respiration.
Organisms bodies get trapped under each other and fossilize (crude oil)
HIGHER CARBON CYCLE
Sea organism shells fall the the sea bed
They follilisze to make limestone
The underwater volcanos release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
Acid rain weathers the limestone and releases carbon dioxide
Oceans can absorb the carbon dioxide from the air
When fuels are burnt (combustion) carbon dioxide return back to the atmosphere
