competition for employment

Italians set up ice-cream parlours and fish shop which by 1939
brought cafe culture to Scotland
Italians offered a popular service as there were very few of them and almost all of
them owned their own buisnesses.
Impact the Jews had on Britain
Most of the Jews worked in industries such as shop keeping, tailoring, shoe making
and the manufacture of furniture. Some of the best known businesses were Jewish
owned e.g. Morrisons in dressmaking and Furtins in theatre.
Many Jews entered the medical profession. Louis Ashenheim in Edinburgh and
Asher Asher in Glasgow were the first Scottish born Jewish university graduates
