Resource summary
Hofling Evaluation
Hofling used a field study so it has high ecological validity as it is in the nurses' natural environment
There are real life applications as the findings could be built into nurse training and used to improve hospital policy
Task validity was high because it was a realistic task- nurses are ordered to administer medication all of the time
It can be repeated and tested for reliability as it had a standardised procedure such as the instructions were given with the same tone of voice
The study was not ethical because nurses did not give their consent to take part in the research or have the right to withdraw throughout
The study was conducted in 1966, so the first findings may not apply in the 21st Century because doctor-nurse relationships are different than before
Rank and Jacobson (1979) couldnt replicate this in a similar study which suggests that the conclusions may be incorrect.
