neurons have branched endings called dendrons to connect with other neurons.
the electrical impulse is passed along the axon of the cells
there's a myelin sheath along the axon that acts as an
electrical insulator, it stops impulses getting lose. it
also speeds up electrical impulses
there are three types
sensory neurone
carry signals from receptors to the
spinal cord and brain
Relay neurone
carry messages from
one part of the CNS
to another.
Motor neurone
carry signals from the CNS to
effectors.
Synapse (tiny gap)
signals cross this gap using chemicals
released by a neurone
an electrical signal travels along the axon
the nerve-ending of the neuron releases chemical messengers
called neurotransmitters. They bind with receptor molecules on the
membrane of the next neuron.
