Resource summary
Forces and Motion
Force and linear motion
Speed = distance travelled/ time taken
On distance-time graphs steeper the line the greater speed of the object
speed = distance/ time
Unbalanced forces can change the speed or direction of an object
Balanced forces will produce no change in the movement of an object
Forces such as air resistance, friction, weight and Gravity exist
Forces and Rotation
moment (turning effect) = force x distance (units Newton Metres)
Forces can cause an object to turn around on a pivot
Force and Presure
Pressure=force / area (units=N/cm2)
Pressure is exerted by solids, Liquids and gasses
Vocabulary: Turning effect of forces= moments
Calculating a moment: M= FxD
