Innate Behaviour
  1. Instinct or innate behavior is the inherent inclination of a living organism toward a particular complex behavior.
    1. Genetically determined and so environment has no impact on behavioural response.
      1. Rigid and infexible
        1. Patterns of behaviour are the same in all members of the same species
          1. Organism probably has no sense of the purpose of the behaviour
          2. Examples of Innate Behaviour
            1. Reflexes
              1. Escape Reflex - the function of which is to avoid predators
                1. Involuntary responses which follow a specific pattern in response to a given stimuli
                2. Kineses
                  1. An orientation behaviour where the rate of movement increases when the organism is in unfavourable conditions.
                    1. Non-directional
                    2. Taxes
                      1. A directional orientation response.
                        1. Positive phototaxis is towards the light stimulus and negative phototaxis is away.
                          1. Positive chemotaxis is towards the chemical stimulus and negative chemotaxis is away.
