Resource summary

Chemistry- Combustion
  1. Complete Combustion
    1. When hydrocarbons burn, they react with OXYGEN in the air.
      1. When hydrocarbons burn completely, the only products are WATER and CARBON DIOXIDE
        1. methane + oxygen = water and carbon dioxide
        2. Is an exothermic reaction
          1. Incomplete Combustion
            1. When hydrocarbons burn in a limited supply of air, the amount of oxygen is not enought to oxidise al the carbon dioxide.
              1. Some of the carbon is released as black soot. Some of it reacts with oxygen to from carbon monoxide which is a poisonous gas with no smell, taste and is colourless.
                1. carbon dioxide+ oxygen = carbon monoxdie
