Photosynthesis
  1. Carbon Dioxide + Water => Glucose + Oxygen
    1. 6CO2 + 6H2O => C6H12O6 + 6O2
      1. Sunlight is absorbed by the chlorophyll in the leaves
      2. Water moves into plant by osmosis through the root hair cells
        1. Osmosis is the net movement of water molecules from a more concentrated area to a less concentrated area through a partially permeable membrane
          1. TRANSPIRATION
            1. Caused by evaporation and diffusion
              1. Affected by; light intensity, temperature, wind speed and humidity
          2. The process carried out by plants to produce food (glucose)
            1. Rate of Photosynthesis is affected by the light intensity, temperature and amount of CO2
              1. Experiments:
                1. Light intensity- use a lamp and record the number of bubbles by plant in beaker
                  1. Carbon Dioxide- in a sealed bell jar with soda lime in it with a light shining in. Test for starch
                    1. Temperature- the enzymes will be denatured. Test for starch
                      1. The test for starch will tell you whether or not photosynthesis is taking place
                        1. 1. Boil it. 2. Boiling tube with Ethanol. 3. Rinse and add Iodine solution
                          1. Starch present - black/blue colour
                    2. Nutrients required by plants
                      1. Nitrates to produce proteins for cell growth
                        1. Phosphates for making DNA & for respiration and growth
                          1. Potassium helps enzymes needed for photosynthesis and respiration
                            1. Magnesium (a tiny bit) for making chlorophyll
