METHOD
Lab Experiment
39 participants
Both male and female
Aged between 18 and 55
Volunteer/self selected
Answered a newspaper advert and were paid
PROCEDURE
Particiapants were ordered to harass a an apparent 'job applicant' (CONFEDERATE)
This was to make he/she nervous whilst sitting a test
The test determined whether they would get the job
RESULTS
92% obeyed/disturbed/critisiced when told to do so by the researcher
Agentic state
4% believed that it was a hoax
96% believed they were dealing with a real situation
They reported that they 'intensely disliked' making the stress marks
CONCLUSION
The majority of the participants obey an authority figure (researcher)
Even though it was designed to harm another
Obedience was higher than Milgrams study
Easier to obey orders to use psychological violence than physical
