1. first suspicions of what his dealings associate with at Eel Marsh house begin when he is on the train with Mr Daily
his sudden attitude alters to which Mr Kipps and the reader doesnt expect
"he gave me a straight look" "For some reason I shuddered, all the more because of the openness of his gave and the direcness of his mannor"
Any relations with Eel Marsh house, unpleasent reactions were provoked which Kipps doesnt understand and wants to learn more.
2.Hill uses personification to describe he town " the houses huddled together and looking in on themselves"
Kipps feels a sense of comfort and safety and begins to understand Dailys description of Crythin Gifford.
this personification shows that Kipps feels ressured and at home here, compared to how he feels at Eel Marsh house, later in the novel
3. The landlords reaction, he dismisses Kipps " his face flickered with... what? Alarm, was it? supicion"
Kipps suspicions begin to be aroused " I was been left in no doubt that there was signifiance in what had been left unsaid"
It is Mr Jeromes reaction which conferms Kipps determination to find out about this mysterious character in Black.
Whn Kipps brings up what he saw at the grave yard " wasting disease, for not only extremly pale"
He fails to realise thatshe might be connected with supernatural activities.
Mr Jerome sudden reaction " stopped dead. He was staring at me" " about to faint or collapse with some some kind of seizure"
