Resource summary
Creation and Divine Aspirations
Victor usurps the role of God by creating the creature.
However, in this secular world, his main crime might just be failing to nurture his creation.
pg. 102: "you, my creator, detest and spurn me, thy creature, to whom thou art bound"
The language Victor uses to describe his work suggests that it is shameful/unholy.
pg. 55: "the horrors of my secret toil", "unhallowed", "filthy creation"
Context: Religion was strong during the 19th Century.
Shelley creates a secular world.
There is no vengeful God to punish Victor, just a vengeful monster.
pg. 173: "Man, you shall repent of the injuries you inflict."
Christian myth serves only to provide anologies.
pg. 134: "I remembered Adam's supplication to his Creator. But where was mine?"
Context: A world showing the fears about beliefs moving away from God and towards science?
