The Moon
  1. It takes the Moon 28 days to make a complete orbit of the Earth.
    1. Gravitational forces between the Moon and the Earth keep the Moon in orbit.
      1. Phases of the Moon
        1. The Moon phases are produced by the alignment of the Moon and the Sun in the sky.
          1. The lit part of the moon is always facing the sun
            1. This is because the moon does not produce its own light but reflects it off other light sources, e,g, the sun
          2. The phases are different in each hemisphere
            1. This is because people on different hemispheres see the moon from a different angle
            2. What are phases of the moon?
              1. As the Moon makes its way around the Earth, we see the bright parts of the Moon's surface at different angles.
            3. The Moon has a smaller gravitational force than the earth because it is smaller
              1. Lunar Months
                1. A lunar month is the time the moon takes to pass through a complete cycle of its phases
                  1. It is measured from New Moon to New Moon
                    1. A lunar month is about 29.5 days
                    2. The Moon is 4.5 billion years old.
                      1. It orbits counter-clockwise
                        1. Why can we see the moon?
                          1. The moon does not create its own light
                            1. It reflects light from the sun.
                            2. The Tides
                              1. The tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon
                              2. The moon rotates around its own axis
                                1. Made by Emma Boxley
