Electric circuits
  1. electric charge
    1. insulating materials become electrically charged when are rubbed together
      1. A substance that gains electrons becomes negatively charged
        1. while a substance that loses electrons becomes positively charged.
      2. Attraction & repulsion
        1. Two negative charges placed near each other will repel each other, and so will two positive charges.
          1. If they have opposite charges they will attract each other.
          2. Electrically charged objects can attract small uncharged objects that are close to them
          3. Metals
            1. Metal atoms release some of their electrons
              1. these electrons are free to move through the structure of the metal.
                1. This is why metals are good conductors of electricity.
            2. Current
              1. Strength of an electric current is measured in Amps
                1. Amps= Watts / Volts
                  1. Amps are a measure of how much electric charge is flowing around the circuit
                2. Types of circuits
                  1. Series
                    1. closed circuit in which the current flows in one path
                      1. the current through each load is the same & the total voltage across the circuit is the sum of the voltages across each load
                    2. Parallel
                      1. circuit is divided into 2 or more paths
