YouTube is the go-to music video platform that most people use. The most popular
videos viewed on YouTube are music videos. It is a conglomerate of Google. There is a
section on YouTube that is wholly dedicated to music and almost all artists will have
their own YouTube channel that they release their videos onto. The most viewed music
video on YouTube is 'Gangham Style' by PSY with over 2, 664, 476, 000 views. I will
ensure that my artist Chelsea Green has a YouTube account so fans can watch her
videos on the most popular music video site.
VEVO
VEVO is a multinational video hosting
service founded in 2009, which was created
by two of the big record companies,
Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sony
Music Entertainment (SME). The site is an
attempt to take control of how official music
videos are played and watched. Along with
having its own website they also power
music videos on several other sites including
YouTube and Music Video Genone. They
have a HD only option, which allows music
videos to be viewed in the highest definition
possible. The site only shows music videos
and has a variety of sections including most
popular and new releases. Vevo has its own
famous record, '24 Hour Vevo Record'. This
is for the most views a music video has
received within 24 hours of its release. The
record is currently hold by Adele with the
video 'Hello', that received 27.7million
views.
VIMEO
Vimeo is an online site that can be seen as a smaller, indie version of YouTube. It provides a platform for content creators to showcase
their work. This includes music artists, which is perfect for my artist as she is new and hasn't got a huge fan following behind her. It
includes a HD Music Video Channel which contains a constantly updated selection of the best HD music videos. It is an extremely popular
site which would benefit my artist as she is new and original, so needs a popular platform to showcase her video so she can gain fans. It
shows new, indie music videos that may not get as much attention on more popular sites such as YouTube.
TV CHANNELS
On our televisions there is a whole
section solely dedicated to showing
music videos. These include a variety
of genres and targeting at different
age groups. One music channel is
Kerrang TV! who show nu metal and
punk videos. AKA show grime and hip
hop and relate to a 18-30 year old
demographic as some of their videos
are more explicit as a consequence of
the genre. MTV, standing for Music
Television, launched in 1981
targeting young adults by showing
them the most recent music
videos. They now have a variety of
different music channels including,
MTV Rocks, MTV Classic, MTV Dance
and many more. MTV Hits and MTV
Music are two of the most popular
shows which more target teenagers.
In terms of our artist I believe her
music video would be shown on MTV
Hits as she will be a popular, current
artist in the genre of Pop.
