Characteristics of Granite
It is resistant to the process of weathering
granite contains cracks or joints
Vertical joints are formed when the rock is cooled and contracted
Horizontal joints are resulted from pressure release as the overlaying rocks were removed by erosion
Granite is a tough rock
2 continents collided with huge amounts of heat and pressure
causing rock to melt=intrusive rock of granite
Granite has 3 main minerals; grey quartz, black mica and pink feldsar
Feldsar is vulnerable to chemical weathering and will form clay called kaolin
