The government set up the PE School Sport and Club
Links strategy to increase and the take up of sporting
opportunities by 5-16 year olds. The PESSCL
programme aims to strengthen links between schools
and local sports clubs.
PESSYP
The new PE and School Sport Strategy (PESSYP) expresses the
commitment to improve the quantity and quality of PE and Sport
undertaken by young people aged 5-19 in England. PESSYP builds
on the success of the PESSCL strategy for 5-16 year olds.
Sport England

opportunities for people to start, stay and succeed in sport.

YOUTH SPORT TRUST
This is aimed at encouraging students who are about 14-16 to organise and manage sports activities
in local primary and secondary schools. For some students taking GCSE PE leadership options in
sports can be taken.
SCHOOL SPORTS PARTNERSHIP
School Sport Partnerships = groups of schools working together to develop PE and
sporting opportunities for young people.
ACTIVE KIDS
PROGRAMME
Supermarkets and other enterprises run voucher programmes where vouchers collected by parents can be used by the schools to buy
sporting and other equipment.
