combined affect of reflecting the chaos of the place she loves
the final stanza is longer showing that she doesn't want to leave the city
for she loves it so much. theres also alot of caesura in the last stanza to
show confinement in the "city of walls"
final world in every stanza is sunlight.
language
repetition."sunlight" is positive and every stanza end on this positive view. it is repeated
again which shows that this is what she sees of the place and her passion for the place
overpowers the negative view "branded by.. sunlight" juxtaposition of negative and positive imagery.
repetition of"they" sounds threatening. the narrator being
personification of city "comes to me..lies down..brush its hair"
imagery of romance shows how mcuh she loves the city
quite a lot of contrast. constant conflict between memory and reality. agressive
language in the form of the power of humans or the power of place against
power of memory. "graceful slopes glow/tanks.. frontiers"
> repetition of "sunlight"
> contrasting language "graceful slopes glow/ tanks..frontiers
> personification of the cit. romantic imagery "lies down..comes to me..brush its hair"
