The Cold

- The Berlin Blockade

- 1. After WWII Germany was divided
into 4 zones; Soviet, American,
British and French.
- 2. America introduces the
Deutschmark to west
Germany and west Berlin.
- 3. Stalin wanted Germany to suffer
so when he heard of the new
currency that would help the
economy, he closed off west Berlin;
cutting off all railroads, canals and
all roads.
- 4. Americans airlifted supplies into west
Berlin, in operation Vittles. Meetings
were held to keep spirits high. Stalin
realised he couldn't win after 11 months,
so he lifted the blockade.
