Electrolysis Intro
  1. The process by which ionic substances are broken down into simpler substances by using electricity
    1. Electro - Electricity
      1. Lysis -Breakdown
      2. Definitions
        1. Reduction
          1. A gain in electrons
          2. Oxidisation
            1. Loss of electrons
            2. Ion
              1. Positively or negatively charged particles
              2. Ionic substance
                1. Formed when a metal reacts with a non-meta and contains ionsl
              3. For electrolysis to be possible, the ions must be able to move
                1. This happens when the ionic substance is melted or dissolved in water
                2. What happens?
                  1. Positively charged ions move to the negative electrode
                    1. There they gain electrons and are reduced
                    2. Negatively charged electrons move to the positive electrode
                      1. They then lose electrons and are oxidised
