Coles- if a person is poor they are more likely to commit crime
Walmsley et al- 41% of prisoners from the lowest social classes they only make up 19% of the population
Jacobson et al- complex backgrounds in the majority of 200 children/young people in custody

1/2 had to live in a deprived household
Graham and Bowling - middle class children were just as likely to be involved in crime as working class children
Police are more likely to give them a warning
Different types of crime have different punishments
Messerschmidt- working class and middle class males commit different types of crime to try to demonstrate their masculinity
