Compounds and mixtures
Chemical Bonding:
-Ionic
-Covalent
Compounds
Annotations:
A compound is a pure substance made up of two or more types of atom chemically combined. e.g. methane CH4, Water H2O e.t.c.
The chemical bond in a compound can either ionic or covalent
A chemical formula is used to describe the number and types of atom present in a compound. e.g. methane CH4 is a compound made up of 1 carbon atom bonded with 4 hydrogen atoms.
Mixtures
Annotations:
A mixture is made up of two or more substances that are mixed, but not chemically joined, and that can be easily separated by a physical proccess
Atoms can form bonds with each other by giving, taking or sharing electrons in order
to achieve a full outer shell of electrons. This is a stable electron
arrangement like that of the Noble Gases.
