Hypervitaminosis A

Anatomy and Physiology: signs ans symptoms
1. stiff neck
  1. cervical and thoracic spine fuses (Ankylosis) as well as artheritis causes great stiffness that can prevent a cat from grooming.
2. fore limb lameness
  1. boney growths around joints
3. gingivitis
  1. can cause premature loss of teeth
4. dull coat
  1. stiff neck prevents grooming
5. weakness
  1. loss of coordination
6. ridigity of muscles
7. seizures & dilated pupils
8. liver damage
Neutrition
1. caused from eating to much liver
  1. cats need liver in thier diet because they cannot make thier own vitamin A so they require preformed vit A from the liver of their prey
2. treatment:
  1. give a balanced diet GRADUALLY! given a large meal can cause vomiting and decrease thier health further
  2. pain killers (analgesic)
  3. if left untreated can cause serious bone deformities and result in paralysis
Animal welfare
1. depression
2. bone deformities are irriversable but overall the cats health can return to normal if changed to a sutible diet.
3. to prevent this always feed a balance diet and reduce the amount of vit A if your cat hunts.
