  1. Banking systems and money
    1. Customers can: add new accounts
      1. add/withdraw money to any of the accounts
        1. pay bills by cheque
          1. Ask for a bank statement
            1. buy items online/in store using debit cards

          1. Main task is to keep data secure and make sure no fraud is performed

                1. Banks threaten to stop using cheques as it is expensive for them

                          1. amount in numbers

                    1. 3 items encoded at bottom of every cheque

                        1. branch sort code
                          1. customer account number
                      2. ink is magnetized,read and inputted into the computer very quickly

                                    1. can carry out basic banking tasks from home such as:
                                      1. view a statement of the account
                                        1. transfer money between accounts
                                          1. Bills can be paid
                                            1. set up/alter direct debits
                                              1. apply for loans/morgages
                                          2. disadvantages
                                            1. worried of security breaches
                                              1. lack of personal touch
                                                1. some banking services are not availble online
                                            2. Cashless society
                                              1. Less people carry money with them, instead they carry credit/debit cards
                                                1. drugs no longer sold on the streets
                                                  1. no money theft
                                                    1. no bank robberies/shop keeper attacks
                                                    2. E-commerce
                                                      1. Buying good electronically
                                                        1. Large variety of goods available ready to be delivered to your door
                                                          1. Avoid tine/expense of travelling to stores
                                                            1. Businesses that work online don't need to pay for overheads
                                                              1. Businesses can expand their market easily
                                                        2. long delivery times
                                                          1. cannot physically inspect goods
                                                            1. worried about personal data security
                                                        3. Payroll
                                                          1. input database/timesheets containing employees details
                                                            1. calculated amount of money needed to pay the employee by the amount of hours they have worked (plus overtime)
                                                              1. outputs printed payslips or email the employee their payslip
                                                                1. updates amount of payments this year + total tax paid this year
                                                                  1. Data sent to BACS system so money can be transferred to employees bank account
